Summit might look innocent and sweet but this boy will eat anything. If it's on the ground, it's fair game. He regularly eats poop of any kind (I've had to stop freaking out over it or I would have lost my mind by now) and he'll pick up plastic, random garbage, dead things, old bones, and even hair and try and swallow it. I can usually convince him to drop the less tasty items in exchange for a treat but when he finds dead things and juicy bones, I literally need to pry them from his mouth. Ugh. My concern of course is that he is going to actually cause some damage to himself - especially with the bones. I don't worry about the big deer bones and such but yesterday he managed to find what I can only guess was a full skeleton of a bird or large fish. There were lots of small crunchy bones. I managed to get most of them out of his mouth but it was a struggle.
I think if I want to continue to walk him off leash at Keho Lake I'm going to have to train him to wear a basket muzzle - for his safety and my sanity. OR I'm just going to have to leave him behind when I go out there with the girls. He can still get his off leash runs at the dog park as the "tasty items" don't last long there with all the other dogs frequenting the area.
