Summit and I don't do a lot of mushing in the winter. Our weather swings from freakishly cold, to freakishly warm with strong winds so it seems like the conditions are never right. But there was a fun run being hosted up in Didsbury this past weekend so we decided to go. A friend let me borrow her kicksled and we opted to do the 3 mile course.
It was fun! But I can't steer or stop which can be a bit of an issue. Thankfully the course was pretty flat with nice wide corners so I only fell a few times when I went off course. :) He was pretty tired by the end. I realized that we don't often run for 5 km straight - we usually stop at least half way for a break. He was pretty thirsty by the end too and was trying to eat snow from the course as he ran. I need to try to get more fluids into him before we go.
But I sure love seeing all the happy dogs raring to go. It's pretty rare to see an uncomfortable sled dog - at least at the events I seem to go to.
