Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

What I find so interesting (and frustrating) is that what is OK one day, isn’t necessarily OK the next. Yesterday it felt like we were sliding backwards. After spending the day before playing outside with Summit for 90 minutes straight, being animated in the house, eating a frozen kong, and approaching and sniffing us of her own accord, I felt like we were making progress. Then yesterday, she wouldn’t leave the couch without prompting (aka pressure). Then all she did when she went outside was do some business, come back in, and go straight back to the couch. She didn’t want to take treats from me and wasn’t interested in anything other than laying on the couch. Then that night she was animated again with Summit, sniffing us, and let me sit on the far end of the couch even. She also attempted to play with one of our cats and Summit in the house (which has never happened before) AND she responded to outside stimuli (a dog was barking and she was looking out the window and growling). It was like we were back to the day before stage and then some.

Now today we have an unanimated dog again. I had to pressure her to go outside. She wouldn’t play with Summit and she wouldn’t move or do anything while I was outside with them. When I took our dogs on a walk I left her another frozen kong (which she ignored completely) and scattered kibble throughout the main floor. She did clean up the cookie scatter but we came home to find her hiding under a chair instead of on her usual bed.
